The Windfall Ghost Figurine - Ossrik

There are old orchards where fallen fruit is never gathered after dusk.

The first windfalls of autumn are said to mark the point at which the orchard begins keeping its own account. Fruit found beneath the trees before morning may be taken. Fruit heard falling after dark is best left where it lies.

The Guild records the Windfall Ghosts as appearing shortly after the first fruit drops, most often between the outer rows where the grass has grown long. They are rarely seen arriving. By morning they are simply there, standing among the fallen apples as though they have been counting them.

Whether they guard the orchard, claim its offerings, or merely wait for something else to arrive has never been established.

Ossrik is most often recorded late in the windfall season, when bruised fruit has begun to darken beneath the trees and the sweetness of the orchard has taken on something heavier.

Several Guild entries place him near apples that appear sound from above but have blackened where they touch the earth. In each account, Ossrik is found standing close by, facing the oldest part of the orchard as though waiting for some further change.

He is regarded as a keeper of the turning harvest: the point at which abundance begins its quiet passage into decay. Where Ossrik appears, the older records advise gathering only what is needed and leaving the rest to the ground.
