The Windfall Ghost Figurine - Bran

There are old orchards where fallen fruit is never gathered after dusk.

The first windfalls of autumn are said to mark the point at which the orchard begins keeping its own account. Fruit found beneath the trees before morning may be taken. Fruit heard falling after dark is best left where it lies.

The Guild records the Windfall Ghosts as appearing shortly after the first fruit drops, most often between the outer rows where the grass has grown long. They are rarely seen arriving. By morning they are simply there, standing among the fallen apples as though they have been counting them.

Whether they guard the orchard, claim its offerings, or merely wait for something else to arrive has never been established.

Bran is most often recorded at the outermost edge of the orchard, where fallen fruit slips half-hidden into the grass and the ground keeps its own quiet count. Several Guild entries note his appearance after windy nights in which the apples were found marked or pecked, as though something had reached them first.

He is regarded as a keeper of what the orchard does not surrender cleanly. Where Bran is found, the windfalls are said to belong less to the household than to the old, watchful things that have already laid claim to them.
