The Familiars do not belong to the guild. Not exactly.

They were never apprenticed, never sworn in, never given a merchant's mark. They simply... arrived. As cats do. And having arrived, they stayed. As cats do.

They learned the rhythms of the guild; the long hours, the careful work, the particular silence of a room where old things are being recorded. And they decided this was acceptable.

They are not catalogued in the Merchant's Ledger.

They are aware of this. They have opinions about it that they have chosen not to share.

Turnip is most often recorded at the farthest edge of the orchard, where the ground begins to roughen and the last of the windfall disappears into nettles and long grass.

Several Guild entries note that he seems particularly drawn to fruit that has rolled beyond the usual gathering places, often settling beside apples found farther from their tree than the wind alone ought reasonably to have carried them.

He is regarded as a keeper of the misplaced harvest. Where Turnip is found, the older records advise searching carefully beneath hedges and roots, for the orchard has a habit of keeping back more than anyone remembers losing.
