The Unannounced - Josephine (Scented Ghost)

Some ghosts carry memories of their former lives. These memories cling to the ghosts as a scent. A tiny insight into where they once were. Scented ghosts will not fragrance a room. They are subtle and only really noticeable when you pick the ghost up and they gift you the tiniest memory of their home. The fragrance will fade with time, as the ghost builds new memories with his or her new ghost custodian. 

Josephine is lavender scented.

Josephine stood a little apart from the others that morning. She does not turn away. She simply looks somewhere you cannot follow. The guild has learned not to ask where. She smells of lavender, faintly, as though she has kept something pressed between pages for a very long time.

The guild does not always know when ghosts will arrive. Maren, Josephine, Freyr and Abalone arrived together, on a morning in early spring when the mist had not yet lifted from the fields. They were standing quite still when we found them. They did not seem lost. They seemed, if anything, as though they had been waiting for us to catch up.
