Old Guild records speak of pale spirits found close to buildings that have stood longer than anyone remembers.

They favour limewashed walls, old foundations and stones worn smooth by generations of hands. Their markings resemble the fine fractures found in ageing plaster and masonry; the quiet evidence of winters endured, timbers settling and houses refusing to fall.

Stonewrights are not believed to cause these cracks. Rather, old accounts suggest they appear wherever something has been repaired many times and is still expected to endure.

For this reason, they have long been regarded by some Merchants as spirits of persistence, repair and the stubborn survival of old places.

They are most often found sitting silently beside walls.

Whether they are inspecting the workmanship remains undocumented.

Viggo is most often recorded along exterior walls exposed to the worst of the northern weather.

He appears particularly drawn to places where rain has traced the same paths through limewash for generations, leaving pale runs, worn patches and repairs beneath repairs.

Old Merchant accounts claim that Viggo can usually be found on the side of a house that takes the first winter storm.

He has never been observed seeking shelter.
