The Jævndøgn Ghosts - Rowan
Rowan is a handmade collectible ghost figurine created by The Nordic Ghost Merchants in Denmark, inspired by the Jævndøgn Ghosts; equinox spirits preserved in Merchant folklore and old Repository accounts.
The Jævndøgn Ghosts are said to appear around the autumn equinox, when daylight and darkness briefly stand in balance and the first heavy morning fogs begin to settle across the Nordic landscape.
Their pale, mist-grey forms are crossed with wandering shades of berry, wine and darkened fruit colours remembered from hedgerows, fallen leaves and the last ripening things of the season. No two carry the markings in quite the same way.
Old accounts place their arrival in orchards, field margins and quiet roads shortly before dawn, where they are easiest to mistake for low fog until they begin to move.
Rowan carries only scattered traces of autumn colour, with muted berry-red and darkened markings appearing through broad folds of pale equinox grey. His surface recalls rowan branches seen through morning mist, where clusters of late fruit show briefly between leaves before disappearing again into the fog.
Merchant records associate ghosts of this kind with woodland edges and old field roads bordered by rowan and hawthorn. They are said to appear most often on still mornings after the equinox, when the air is cold enough to hold the mist low and the last berries remain bright against the fading season.
Rowan the ghost figurine stands at just short of 8 cm in height.
