The Jævndøgn Ghosts - Aveline
Aveline is a handmade collectible ghost figurine created by The Nordic Ghost Merchants in Denmark, inspired by the Jævndøgn Ghosts; equinox spirits preserved in Merchant folklore and old Repository accounts.
The Jævndøgn Ghosts are said to appear around the autumn equinox, when daylight and darkness briefly stand in balance and the first heavy morning fogs begin to settle across the Nordic landscape.
Their pale, mist-grey forms are crossed with wandering shades of berry, wine and darkened fruit colours remembered from hedgerows, fallen leaves and the last ripening things of the season. No two carry the markings in quite the same way.
Old accounts place their arrival in orchards, field margins and quiet roads shortly before dawn, where they are easiest to mistake for low fog until they begin to move.
Aveline carries much of her autumn colour low across her form, where berry-red markings gather through the trailing folds beneath a quieter crown of pale equinox grey. Her markings recall fallen leaves and late fruit collected along the edges of old paths, where wind and rain have pressed the season close to the earth.
Merchant records associate ghosts of this kind with orchard floors and sheltered lanes after the first persistent autumn winds. They are said to appear where leaves have begun to gather in shallow drifts, their darker markings briefly visible beneath the morning mist before the light reaches the ground.
Aveline the ghost figurine stands at just short of 8 cm in height.
These are handmade ghost figurines created from hand-poured jesmonite. Each pour produces a completely unique pattern.
