Damson is a handmade collectible Familiar figurine created by The Nordic Ghost Merchants in Denmark, inspired by the Familiars recorded throughout Merchant folklore and old Repository accounts.

Merchant folklore has never been entirely certain what to make of the Familiars.

They do not belong to the Guild. Not exactly.

They were never apprenticed, never sworn in, never given a merchant’s mark. According to the oldest Repository accounts, they simply… arrived. As cats do. And having arrived, they stayed.

They learned the rhythms of the Guild; the long hours, the careful work, the particular silence of a room where old things are being recorded. And they decided this was acceptable.

They are not entered into the Merchant’s Ledger as members of the Guild.

They are aware of this.

They have opinions about it that they have chosen not to share.

The Jævndøgn Familiars are most often associated with hedgerows, orchards and field margins around the autumn equinox, where berry dark colour remains beneath the first pale morning fogs.

Damson is most often associated with old orchard edges, where the last dark fruit of the season hangs beneath thinning leaves and the morning mist settles low between the trees. His name appears repeatedly in late-equinoctial records, particularly where fallen plums have stained the grass and the first cold nights have begun to soften the fruit still clinging to the branches.

Merchant accounts describe him as a quiet Familiar, usually found close to the ground among roots, fallen leaves and windfall fruit. He is said to favour the hours just before sunrise, when the orchard is at its darkest and the pale fog has not yet begun to lift.

Damson the ghost cat figurine stands at 5 cm in height.
