Mortimer carries a long dark mark down his centre, as though soot and meltwater found the same path through him over many winters. He is most often found beside old hearthstones after the fire has burned low, watching frost gather patiently at the windows. Mortimer does not fear the cold. He merely takes quiet satisfaction in the places it could not reach.
