The Familiars do not belong to the guild. Not exactly.

They were never apprenticed, never sworn in, never given a merchant's mark. They simply... arrived. As cats do. And having arrived, they stayed. They learned the rhythms of the guild; the long hours, the careful work, the particular silence of a room where old things are being recorded. And they decided this was acceptable.

They are not catalogued in the Merchant's Ledger.

They are aware of this. They have opinions about it that they have chosen not to share.

Murph is said to favour the cold spaces beneath old staircases, where winter damp gathers and darkens the stone.

He has repeatedly been found there after storms, sitting beside small pools of meltwater as though waiting for something.

What he is waiting for has not been established.

Murph seems perfectly content with this.
