They were never apprenticed, never sworn in, never given a merchant's mark. They simply... arrived. As cats do. And having arrived, they stayed. They learned the rhythms of the guild; the long hours, the careful work, the particular silence of a room where old things are being recorded. And they decided this was acceptable.

They are not catalogued in the Merchant's Ledger.

They are aware of this. They have opinions about it that they have chosen not to share.

Mordecai is said to favour old shelves where frost once crept through the walls and left dark seams in the wood.

He has been found sitting beside stacks of records that were not there the night before.

No one knows what he is sorting.
