The Familiars do not belong to the guild. Not exactly.

They were never apprenticed, never sworn in, never given a merchant's mark. They simply... arrived. As cats do. And having arrived, they stayed. They learned the rhythms of the guild; the long hours, the careful work, the particular silence of a room where old things are being recorded. And they decided this was acceptable.

They are not catalogued in the Merchant's Ledger.

They are aware of this. They have opinions about it that they have chosen not to share.

Clarice is said to favour windows where winter frost has settled into the old glass year after year.

She is often found beside ledgers left open after dark, sitting very still as though reading them.

No one has ever seen her turn a page.

Clarice nevertheless knows things she was never told.
