Pickles is frequently found asleep upon records that have been set aside as unreadable or incomplete. By morning, the same pages are often found open at a previously overlooked passage, accompanied by several small black paw marks that do not appear to belong to ink.

The Familiars do not belong to the guild. Not exactly.

They were never apprenticed, never sworn in, never given a merchant's mark. They simply... arrived. As cats do. And having arrived, they stayed. They learned the rhythms of the guild; the long hours, the careful work, the particular silence of a room where old things are being recorded. And they decided this was acceptable.

They are aware of this. They have opinions about it that they have chosen not to share.
