The Familiars do not belong to the guild. Not exactly.
They were never apprenticed, never sworn in, never given a merchant's mark. They simply... arrived. As cats do. And having arrived, they stayed. They learned the rhythms of the guild; the long hours, the careful work, the particular silence of a room where old things are being recorded. And they decided this was acceptable.
They are not catalogued in the Merchant's Ledger.
They are aware of this. They have opinions about it that they have chosen not to share.
Clement prefers the quietest corners of the Repository, particularly those occupied by abandoned notes, unfinished indexes and documents marked for later review. He has never been officially assigned to the Chroniclers. This does not appear to concern him.
